Small Talk: Skincare Tips with Izzi from Luv Ur Skin!

I love talking about skin care tips with girls, because I don’t think we get enough advice on how important it is to take care of your skin from an early age Part of it using good quality natural skin care products, but there’s so much more we can do. Here are my top 5 tips for great skin all year round.
CLEANSE MORNING AND NIGHT
Most girls think that if they don’t wear make-up they don’t really need to cleanse with products, not true!! All day long our skin is exposed to so many different things we don’t even think about like dirt, dust, sun/wind damage, wearing sunscreen and all these factors contribute to blocked pores and potential breakouts, especially if you don’t clean your face properly and water alone just doesn’t it. If you find after a long day you struggle to get motivated to do your skincare routine before you go to bed, then take a note from my book and cleanse as soon as you get home or in the shower, rather than waiting until bedtime.
Our skin also works really hard to repair and recover while we sleep so it’s important to cleanse with a good natural face wash in the morning that is pH balanced (so you don’t need to use any harsh toners to rebalance) to leave your skin feeling fresh, clean and naturally beautiful, ready for the day ahead. It took me awhile to get into a regular routine, but now it has become a habit and I love it, so whenever you brush your teeth, think of your skin and do it all at the same time, it’s easier than you think!
MOISTURISE & HYDRATE – INSIDE AND OUT
I sound like a broken record, but it is super important to moisturise your face morning and night. While you may think that moisturising might clog your pores or make your skin oily, it will in fact help balance out oil production and reduce the likelihood of breakouts, by keeping your skin hydrated. You need to make sure you use a moisturiser that is right for your skin type; like my Luv Ur Skin Face Moisturiser which is light and easily absorbed and great for sensitive skin.
A moisturiser can also act as a barrier and help to protect your skin during the day, but make sure to keep it natural, as your skin absorbs what you put on it so avoid harsh chemicals or artificial ingredients. Also, don’t forget to hydrate your skin from within by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. I try to drink eight glasses every day, which will help flush out toxins and keep your body’s organs in tiptop shape!
EXERCISE
I can sometimes get really busy with school and the business so try to make time to do some type of activity to keep me fit and give my brain a break from it all, but, exercising also increases blood flow which helps carry oxygen and nutrients to skin cells and keep them working better. There’s a lot of ways to stay fit and healthy, I love to dance so get my exercise that way and finally learnt to do a cartwheel this year. You can do different team sports like hockey, netball, football, basketball, dance, cheerleading or you might prefer to go solo by doing martial arts or gymnastics, but whatever you decide to do, always do your best and you must enjoy it and have fun. Exercise is great for your health, but is just as important for your skin, so get moving!
EAT WELL
Our skin is a reflection of our insides, so it’s true when they say, “you are what you eat”. But I get that not everyone enjoys a plate full of vegies, so find fun ways to get them into your diet, like getting some into your smoothie or freshly squeezed juice. I’m not a fan of raw kale or celery but can’t event taste them in my smoothies so it’s an easy and quick way to get my 5 fruit and veg a day. I also believe in everything in moderation, so don’t be too hard on yourself if you have a treat every now and then, but just make sure to balance it out with eating really well for the rest of day.
SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP.
This is one I definitely need to work on as I find when I’m really busy and don’t get as much sleep as I’d like, or need, it stresses my skin and I’m more likely to get a breakout. When you sleep your body and skin take the time to rest and recover so give them as much time as possible. So put away your technology and other distractions and sweet dreams!
I hope you enjoy these tips as I love to inspire girls to be their naturally beautiful selves… because every girl deserves to be comfortable in her own skin.
